The mission of Cellistic/ Ncardia Belgium is to understand human iPSC and developmental biology and harness this knowledge to develop and manufacture iPSC therapeutics that significantly improve patient outcomes. Within our Cell Therapy team in Mont-Saint-Guibert (Belgium) there is a position immediately available for a (Senior) Data Scientist. The selected candidate will report to the VP, Cell Technology. The position

In this role, you will work in a multidisciplinary, international team of world-class scientists with state-of-the-art knowledge of stem-cell process development, scale-up and manufacture. You will work with multiple project teams and build processes for complex data collection, data processing, data management, and data analysis required for robust manufacture of human iPSC-derived functional cells at high quality and large scale.

Responsibilities

  • Develop data analytics (e.g., pattern recognition, critical quality attribute and critical process parameter determination) to build Design of Experiments (DoE) and Quality by Design (QbD) systems for process robustness
  • Develop and execute algorithms using machine learning (ML)/artificial intelligence (AI) programs designed to identify data patterns
  • Develop and operate systems for complex data collection, processing workflows, statistical analysis, visualization, and reporting
  • Link critical process parameters and materials to process and cell product quality attributes, to improve process and product robustness
  • Ensure that data quality is adequate for technology transfer and GMP readiness
  • Lead data science / bioinformatics tasks, both in house and outsourced to service providers
  • Be well-aware of project biological context and provide biological interpretations of your results to teams with diverse scientific backgrounds
  • Improve the efficiency of scientific and operational processes with your data analyses and reports

Qualification & Experience

  • Sc. or Ph.D in Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computational Biology, or equivalent
  • Two years or more experience in similar position within industry or as postdoctoral researcher
  • Strong affinity with cell biology, cell manufacture and scale-up
  • Experience with development and optimization of mammalian cell manufacturing processes and process characterization is a plus
  • Excellent programming skills (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C/C++, R, git) and ability to use cloud services for storage and computing
  • Experience with applied statistics, including digital/image/statistical signal processing, relational and time series databases (SQL), modeling, and machine learning
  • Experience with version control software, QMS tools and GMP
  • Ability to work effectively in a project-based manner
  • Excellent organization, project and time management skills. Timelines may be demanding
  • Capacity to innovate and contribute to company IP
  • Good communicator and team-player
  • Can maintain flexibility in a dynamic environment
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken
  • Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills
