(Senior) EHS Manager

The mission of Cellistic/ Ncardia Belgium is to understand human iPSC and developmental biology and harness this knowledge to develop and manufacture iPSC therapeutics that significantly improve patient outcomes. We are convinced that pluripotent stem cell technology is the key to getting better, more efficient treatments to patients faster. Within our Cell Therapy team in Mont-Saint-Guibert (Belgium) there is a position immediately available for a (Senior) EHS Manager. The selected candidate will report to the Head of Operations. Responsibilities

Cellistic is looking for an EHS manager who will implement all the safety advisor’s missions, as defined in the Belgian regulations, in his organization.

  • Plan, build and implement the EHS strategy at Cellistic.

  • Build and manage “SIPP” (internal service for prevention and protection) and act as biosafety officer.

  • Write, propose and follow-up the EHS Annual Plan.

  • Ensure EHS incidents and injuries are investigated in a timely manner and with the appropriate tools so to identify root causes and define meaningful actions plan.

  • Lead initiatives to identify, assess and mitigate risks.

  • Provide advice and recommendations to the leadership team and to his management team to ensure compliance to legal and internal EHS requirements taking into account the business needs.

  • Provide EHS advices for all management of change.

  • Develop an EHS culture and foster the risk ownership by the line management.

  • Ensure EHS welcoming of newcomers.

  • Share EHS communication for Cellistic staff and contractors.

  • Identify the needs of safety competencies of all employees and provide that training through in-house resources or external consultancies.

  • Share and adopt best practices.

  • Develop and implement EHS inspection and audit techniques for internal use.

  • Validate risk assessments: personal and process safety analysis.

  • Legal workplace visit with the unions: preparation - report - follow-up.

  • Write annual/monthly report.

  • Psychosocial risks: management and monitoring with Occupational Health department (SEPP).

Qualification & Experience

  • University degree in engineering, science, or other relevant discipline.
  • EHS post-graduation qualification (level 2 or 1).
  • Minimum of 5 years of Environmental, Health and Safety management experience in industrial environment.
  • Minimum of 10 years working experience in industrial environment.
  • Experience in pharmaceutical or biotech industry is a plus.

Skills & Competencies

  • Have experience in developing, implementing and managing EH&S plans and programs.

  • Strong leadership skills and an ability to drive an EHS culture through the organization.

  • Ability to interface with employees and management in an effective and professional manner.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of employees, leadership, consultants, and regulatory entities. 

  • Ability to apply critical thinking methods: define problems, collect and interpret relevant data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and implement countermeasures.

  • Ability to research, prepare, and format training and other written communications to effectively present information to employees, senior leadership, public groups, or regulatory agencies. 

  • Hands on with a sense of urgency, ability to manage under pressure and manage multiple priorities and projects. 

  • Languages: French speaker with good written and spoken English skills (B2 level)
